Halloween approaches which has turned into a 4 day holiday plus weeks of advance fright shot into the atmosphere. I know one little girl only 7 years old that is turned off this year, doesn't want to trick or treat or dress up in a costume. She doesn't like to talk about it either.
I am almost at that point as well. The horror of the massive hurricanes that struck Texas and Florida where I have relatives and friends, the terror of the aftermath in Puerto Rico, and near home the California fires have all brought me to a breaking point.

The fires of Northern California are closest to me, especially since I plan on moving to Sonoma County. I slipped into my own trauma, melting down at the dentist office to be sent home because I was so frightened by what was happening only 2 hours away. My county shut down schools and it was hard to breathe for days. I can't imagine the toxicity of the air in Santa Rosa, all over those beautiful northern counties. Wine country, full of ambiance and good will on fire.

I read many personal stories, heartbreaking, and who can forget the courage and bravery of our first responders as they saved people and faced the fires to extinguish them in whipping wind. Racing fires that jumped and raced ahead, people unable to outrun them.
Today they say the fires will be extinguished by Friday, tomorrow. Before Halloween, the Day of the Dead. People are returning to the joy they were spared or the sorrow of losing their home and lifelong memories.

We all have been witnessing the amazing community of these counties as they pull each other up. How they are there for one another is a life affirming experience. That is why I wanted to move to our wine country. The community is so genuine and thoughtful and sweet. Now I know it has been tested by fire and it will be even deeper than ever.

Sonoma Strong!

Lent, Holy Week, Passover, Good Friday and Easter 2017

It has been a hard winter here in Northern California with the rains and flooding but the hardness came as a blessing because of the drought. We have enough water now to not have to worry at least for this next year. But worries never cease with the new President and Congress taking over and destroying decades of work by both Republican and Democratic Parties and the world in regards to our environment and global warming, the earth's climate change. Education has been disbanded federally, and the take down of our clean air, water, federal protections for lands and habitats, animals, plants and places of endearment to the American people are being sold off to greedy corporations who only want to profit themselves. It has been a difficult time for those of us who work on the front lines of  environmental causes. God bless us all and may he protect us as this time goes by. I believe in miracles so I hope maybe he will have a few to shower us with this Spring as Easter approaches. The love He showed us over 2,000 years ago in the sacrifice of his son for forgiveness of our sins so our admittance into heaven will be there at the gate, and also to enjoy his earth in better ways is still in force. Please pray for our country and the protection of the life here and in that way you will be praying for the protection of the life of the entire world. Amen

Christmas Advent Week One

Thanksgiving has passed, the last harvest of the year and it was bountiful but full of the tension of our American election. I spent a quiet but filling holiday full of retrospect and still very hopeful for the future. One thing I was deeply thankful for was the release from several environmental groups that global warming had slowed down, that there was hope for our future not to be so devastated if we kept on track. My disappointment that the US might now veer off track with the election of Donald Trump and back off our clean energy programs is disheartening. The rest of the world though seems to be firm in their commitment to climate change which keeps me very hopeful. The terrible standoff at Standing Rock Sioux in N. Dakota of course filled the holiday even as the Blackfoot tribe were rewarded safety for their sacred lands by President Obama. My daughter's paternal great-grandmother was a Blackfoot Indian from Montana and I am very happy for this tribe today.

Now it is Advent Week One and people are Christmas shopping and decorating. I hope the Christmas spirit grows bright this season.

"Coronado Red" in honor of the Paris Climate Accord

This is my painting that is currently circling cyberspace in an international art show honoring the Paris Climate Change Accord. A few days after November starts the Accord will be implemented and official and the show will be over. This show has been online for almost a year. It is one of my favorite exhibitions I have ever been privileged to participate in and share with artists around the world.

Coronado Red is an acrylic painting depicting the psychic scream I heard when the Humboldt squid, a red squid attacked the ocean bathers and swimmers at Coronado Beach in San Diego. The squid's home is really far south of our country but due to warming ocean water that has dwindled the food supply, the Humboldt squid, an enormous and dangerous animal has migrated north in search of food. We also have the wonderful Blue Whale now for the same reason, climate change, feeding off our coast. The Humboldt squid has migrated far north now and has been sighted off the California/Oregon coast clear to Alaska. The squid is capable of pulling an adult human under the water and killing it for food.

Earth Day 2 Degrees C

What do you want to know about climate change? CNN's John Sutter is going to spend the rest of the year telling the story of one number -- 2 degrees -- and he needs your help do it! World leaders agree that if the world warms more than 2 degrees Celsius, we'll see disastrous consequences. Ask your questions here and they'll inspire Sutter's reporting. This is a rare opportunity for you to shape the way CNN covers a critically important topic. Thanks for participating! #2degrees

The End of Fossil Fuels

This graphic came from my friends at Mosaic and Ecowatch in a post they had on Facebook.
It is very encouraging for the earth's future.

Spring of Sustainability 2013

I was reading one of my emails I get so often from Roz Savage who sends them from all around the world in her adventures. It was the opportunity to be a part of the Spring of Sustainability 2013 which she is a contributor. There are many people here who speak about the problems facing the people of the world, those of us who need answers to calm down with, possible solutions for the future of our grandchildren.

God's Final Word

Anyone who reads my blog knows I am a Christian and witness for the Lord through environmental concerns. I believe we are living in the last book of the Bible, Revelation, which describes the conditions we keep encountering on earth. The diseases, weather, wars, corruption all are clearly defined in this book. It is particularly difficult US citizens to accept what is happening because we have conquered so much adversity and can provide much comfort living here for a broad range of the population. But the negatives have always been with us, now they are magnified and reading this last book in the Bible has helped me to understand why and that eventually it will end. But first life will get even more dangerous and difficult on earth. I could not face the future without the comfort of my Savior, Jesus Christ and the belief that he will return soon and peace will reign on earth. We have passed the Western Christian Churches Easter and await for the Orthodox Pasha on May 5. Then Pentecost arrives. That is the Christian Resurrection or Good News Season for 2013 and celebrations and acknowledgements will be posted here. God bless you!
