Finally, the US Gov. has declared the polar bears a threatened species!
At last, we officially have listed the polar bears as endangered. Along with many environmental and wildlife groups, I have been petitioning, emailing and calling those in control in this government for several years to get them listed. I still run into people who don't realize these beautiful white bears are drowning in their Arctic habitat because the ice is melting. It is heart-rending to see the film clips of the large bears swimming and swimming with no place to land. I'm not showing any graphics or clips because I don't want any copyright lawyers swooping in on me. So I am just writing. At least it is a step and some want this all connected to climate change, you think? Of course it's related to global warming! Just about everyone grew up with a teddy bear, and now this one is a big ole white one that everyone loves and their sweet cubs. Tears still come to my eyes over their plight because...are we too late? I don't know. I told a friend the other day that it would be sad to think they are all gone from their home and we can only think of them and visit them in a zoo. Well, at least Uncle Sam has decided to care enough about them to list them. Praying here that they will come back like the American Bald Eagle. Really, the polar bear is a symbol as well for the North Pole. I find it staggering to think I might be alive to see them disappear. Please God.
