It's over for now...so take your mind off the climate crisis and see a good movie.
The wear and tear of the last two weeks in the climate crisis and is mending a bit. Disappointment and distant hopes are still around. Hopefully people are decorating for Christmas, baking cookies and cakes, shopping for the Christmas dinner and last minute gifts, wrapping gifts and in general enjoying life at the moment in this warm and wonderful season. One thing that is special if you like movies are the offerings every Christmas. No matter where you are or if you are alone, there is always at least one really good movie to go see and take your mind off the problems of this world. This year there are is a large and varied selection to choose and if I could, I would go see them all during the next two weeks. But today I stopped all holiday preparations and went to see Invictus. This Clint Eastwood movie with Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as the captain of the South African rugby team and a host of unknown and winning actors playing the people of South Africa has a winning spirit as their new and esteemed leader, Mandela, assumes command of his newly freed from apartheid country and hopes to unite blacks and whites together. From his bodyguard detail to the whole country united in spirit behind a losing national rugby team, at once despised by blacks and adored by whites you witness the amazing spirit of Mandela who spent nearly 30 years in a tortuous prison. It is a true story that takes us back to 1995. I was moved to joyous tears by this movie and it made me look at my own life and what I was doing that year. I really recommend it if you want a wonderful break from the intensity of 2009 and the holidays. (PG-13)
