One of the most wonderful animal relationships I have ever had has been with my cat, Smokey. He was rescued from an abusive home within my family and taken in by me after abandonment due to an emergency. He didn't meow or purr and now after several years he does both! Also would never let me hold him but loved getting petted and laying on my body when I was going to sleep. He is able to be petted by me over his whole body and brushed which was impossible before. He is tidy and clean and careful. I just love Smokey for his wisdom and bravery in the face of a harsh living situation and overcoming that with love.
